Rated 5 out of 5 by MickiM Stunning detailed bedding - stars are 3-D
This quilt is beautiful - and has two great sides - but as another reviewer said, the stars are only sewn on in the middle, so the points of the stars can stick up unless ironed down. I'm not sure why they designed it this way, but the quilt is very beautiful regardless and I'm happy I ordered it. It's wonderfully boyish without being childish. My son loves pretending he is sleeping in a rocket ship! The first night he complained about the edges being uncomfortable, but it's been a month and he's now fine with it. Holds up really well in the wash/dryer.
It is a quilt/coverlet, so it's not going to be as warm as a comforter, but my son gets hot at night so we prefer to use layers (sheet/quilt/blanket) instead of something thicker. It also makes for a very neat bed because it's easy to tuck in or looks great out, and it's bulky.
I'd prefer they sew down the stars, because of the necessary ironing involved, but it's a really beautiful quilt and I'm happy we purchased it.

One of the main reasons that I buy Hanna Andersson products is because most of the things that they sell are Oeko-Tex certified, and many of them are organic as well. So many things that are shipped from overseas have to be treated with toxic chemicals to keep them from rotting, molding, or being infested by insects, which I can understand, but I don't want those chemicals in my home, and I don't want to have to repeatedly wash things to remove chemical smells.
My daughter is now almost 4, and we've been shopping at Hanna since she was a baby. We've gone through many Hannas and have never once had an issue with chemical odors until now! Our little one was so excited about the rocket ships on this quilt, and from what I saw online, I thought that maybe it would be gender-neutral enough to work for a girl's room, but it's really quite boyish. That's on me, though, not on Hanna Andersson.
The big issues that I had with this quilt were these:
-A strong chemical smell when it was unpackaged, to the point where I experienced eye irritation, and my husband, who is stoic about such things, was also bothered by it. Unacceptable.
-The quilt is quite thin, too thin IMO. I was hoping to only have to add another cotton blanket underneath. I would say this quilt is fine for summer, or to be decorative, but it's not cozy.
-The stars are not sewn on all the way around, but rather only tacked on in the center, so that when I unpackaged it, they were folded in on themselves. It would doubtless be a problem when washing the quilt; they will scrunch up since they are inadequately sewn down.
-Also something to note, although not a flaw, is that the quilt will have to be centered on the bed to look good, since the pattern radiates out from the sun. I hadn't thought about that until I saw it in person.
This quilt is lovely to look at, and the motif is charming, but it won't work for us, as it's quite boyish, too thin, the stars will need ironing out of the dryer, and the chemical smell was concerning. It does seem like good quality, as does almost everything we've had from Hanna Andersson.
