Hanna HelpsAssociates in the CommunityHannaShare Grant Committee All employees are invited to help allocate funds by volunteering on the HannaShare Grants Committee. Members review grant proposals, make site visits to organizations, and make recommendations for grant allocation. Grants are made at the corporate headquarters in Portland, Oregon, and at our distribution center in Louisville, Kentucky. Employee Matching Gift Program We encourage charitable donations by Hanna employees through the Employee Matching Gift Program. Hanna matches contributions to qualified nonprofit organizations: for each dollar an employee donates, Hanna donates another dollar, up to $500 per employee per year. In 2005, Hanna employees donated over $20,000 to nonprofits and that amount was matched. Paid Volunteer Hours We encourage employees to volunteer their time to support healthy communities. One way we support volunteerism is by paying up to 16 hours per calender year for time spent at local schools, non-profit agencies or charities of our employees' choice. Annual Sand In The City Event One summer day each year in our beautiful city of Portland, one hundred tons of sand are heaped onto a whole city block for a benefit called Sand in the City the recipient is Kids on the Block Awareness Program, a national troupe of volunteer puppeteers that uses child-size puppets to help children understand and accept differences in one another, as well as learning to protect themselves and stay safe in difficult situations. Sponsor teams create immense sand sculptures all on one day, and this year, Hanna's team turned tons of wet sand into a sculpture of Mr. Potato Head reading to his son! Despite unusually hot Portland weather our team pulled together and had a terrific time! Best of all, the contest raised money to continue the excellent work done by Kids on the Block. For more information, please contact www.powerfulpuppetry.org. Children's Choice Grants Our children love to give, too! As part of the annual national event called "Take Your Child to Work Day" the children of Hanna Andersson employees in Portland meet together, learn about several non-profit organizations, and help allocate $500 among five groups which support kids in need. |
