Hanna HelpsCash for Kids Our kids' education is vital to everyone's future, because a generation from now we'll depend on them to shape our communities! Yet schools across the country continue to struggle. I'd like to tell you about a program that we began in 1994 and call "Cash for Kids."Once a year every school-age child of a Hanna employee receives a $100 check made out to his or her school - the children give the checks to their principals, and we encourage them to make suggestions about how the money might be spent, which is wonderfully empowering to the children! Seeing the impact on our employees' children, we expanded the program to Title One elementary schools in our flagship community of Portland, Oregon. In Title One schools, at least 50% of the students receive Free or Reduced Lunch due to their families' low incomes. Donations are also made to academic programs for home-schooled children of Hanna employees, and to classrooms of children mentored by Hanna employees. Quite a few Hanna employees carve out time to help children with tutoring, homework assistance, and academic field trips. This past winter, over 300 gifts of $100 went to classrooms across the country! Here's to a future bright with hope. How to start your own Cash For Kids program This wonderfully simple and direct donation program benefits schools, kids and employees. We're thrilled that it's been adopted by many of the Businesses for Social Responsibility, of which we're a member. The best way to get started is to download the 4 page PDF file, which outlines the program and gives you terrific templates to work from. You will need the Free Acrobat Reader software to view the PDF. Thank you for your interest three cheers to you for supporting schools! |
